MLK Jr. Day of Service

Create handwritten cards with messages of encouragement and gratitude for members of our broader community at Friends House. All supplies will be provided, and completed cards will be collected for distribution following the event.

Assemble toiletry kits for individuals and families in need. Final kit contents may be based on current needs identified through local community partners.

DIY Recycled Dog Toys

Paint uplifting messages on smooth stones that will be placed throughout our communities! This creative activity is perfect for all ages and offers a lasting reminder of kindness and connection.

Support the ongoing Community Closet by donating gently used coats, pants, tops, and clothing items that can be stored and distributed to families in need (a donation partner is being identified).

Families unable to attend in person may contribute donations directly to the collection bins at the front desk of each division from Jan. 20-Feb. 2..

Prepare dinner casseroles for 200 people for donation to HBCAC men’s emergency shelter. Meal donations include plates, utensils, and cups. Meals should be covered and labeled, whether prepared at home using current precautions or ordered from a restaurant.

Deliver to the NEW Nebel Street Shelter (11600 Nebel St, Rockville, MD 20852) by 7:00am for breakfast, 11:00am for lunch, or 5:00pm for hot dinners (2:00pm for refrigerated meals), pull to the back and call 240-550-7018 for unloading, then email meals@mcch.net upon completion to ensure proper recording and donation receipts.
