About Our Boarding Program

A life-changing experience

Sandy Spring Friends School offers 5-day and 7-day boarding options for U.S. students and international students in Grades 9-12.

Families choose SSFS because they are looking for a learning environment that provides the right amount of academic challenge and structure while fostering a deep sense of belonging for each student. Based on Quaker principles, our educational philosophy nurtures the whole student, preparing them for success in college and life beyond.

Victoria Lyu Class of 2017

“I was born in China and SSFS was my first stop outside the country. When I arrived on campus as a dorm student at the age of 14, I fell in love with the community. I felt immediately accepted by the globally diverse student body. I ultimately took the experience of cultural curiosity and mutual sharing at SSFS with me to Boston College. My experience of belonging at SSFS ultimately inspired me to code an app to help fellow BC students connect on campus.”

Victoria Lyu, Class of 2017

Intentionally diverse

Each year we welcome students from all over the world. More importantly, we foster a sense of belonging on campus for each and every student.

Feels like home

Our private boarding school offers 5-day and 7-day on-campus dormitory living.  Our program provides a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment that provides security while encouraging personal responsibility and self-advocacy. Boarding students connect with our full Upper School program, and are an  important part of the culture and community at Sandy Spring.
