Community Service

At Sandy Spring Friends School, we believe helping others and serving the community are integral parts of the learning process in Quaker education; it is one of the most profound ways you can “Let Your Life Speak.”

Community service encourages students to shift their focus away from their immediate surroundings and social situations and to develop a broader understanding of their world and community. School-wide, grade level, and individual community service projects expose students to a variety of social issues. By helping different groups of people in different situations of need, our students feel the fulfillment that comes from serving others and learn that there are many ways to be of assistance. Our service projects enable students to recognize that they have the skills to be more socially responsible, to embrace the concept of giving of oneself, and to recognize the intrinsic rewards of such labors of love.
