The 2020-21 academic competition season ended nobly for Sandy Spring Friends School’s Quiz Bowl Team on Thursday, March 11. From a highly competitive pool of twenty-two teams, SSFS advanced to the final day of competition, as 1 of only 4 teams remaining in the Montgomery Academic Beltway League Semifinal Round, and the highest-ranking private school in the conference. In the 3rd Place Match, the ‘Beests came from behind to force a sudden death overtime between the two team captains with alternating questions. On the sixth question, Whitman slipped, and Captain Moira McCudden secured the bronze medal on behalf of her team and Sandy Spring Friends School.
With an overall record of 15-6-0 across all interscholastic formats of play, SSFS finished fittingly, once again, among the top academic programs in the county, distinguishing itself as “an ideal setting for intellectual contemplation, diverse extracurricular pursuits, and personal growth.” On route, this year’s SSFS Quiz Bowl Team achieved the following accomplishments:

  • MABL Bronze Medalists
  • Advanced to MABL Semifinal Round
  • Earned the program’s 250th victory since 2013-14 on 02/11/21

Congratulations to this year’s SSFS Quiz Bowl Team, led by Captain Moira McCudden (’21), Assistant Captain Olivia Gilbert (’21), and rounded out by fellow seniors Leila Bobrow and Esther Feron, and junior Sophia Strocko. This group’s collective efforts have extended the SSFS Quiz Bowl Team’s overall program record to a remarkable 253-116-4 since 2013-14.
