Upper School Sources of Strength Peer Leaders Give Lessons in the Lower School

Upper School Sources of Strength Peer Leaders at SSFS have been visiting our Lower School classrooms throughout April to share mini-lessons related to stewardship, kindness, and how individuals can contribute both to their own positive growth and well-being, and that of our community. Each class engaged in a discussion and activity that solicited ideas of how students can show kindness to one another and our environment. The homeroom lessons culminated in each student making a “kindness hand” that showed how they would demonstrate kindness.

Kindness Hands

Three students took part in the April 16 Lower School Community Assembly to share some of the take-aways from their month’s lessons, which aligned with the Lower School April theme of “Stewardship and Kindness.”

Sources of Strength is a national peer-to-peer mental health promotional program. As shared on their website, “Sources of Strength takes a strength-based, upstream approach to preventing negative outcomes while promoting well-being, help-seeking, resilience, healthy coping, and a sense of belonging.” A select group of Middle and Upper School students receive Peer Leadership training each Fall and run various campaigns and activities throughout the year to focus on positive growth and mental health awareness. Upper School Peer Leaders received the 2025 Intervener Award from the Don’t Be A Bully Project last fall.

More Stories

Or, as Springers call them, "Gnu Stories"

Since our mascot is the wildebeest—also called "gnu"—our community newsletter is similarly named and shares the stories of the inspiring people, purposeful programming, and energizing events that fill our lives throughout the year.
