SSFS Upper School Students Lead Consent Presentations

SSFS Upper School Students Lead Consent Presentations

Eight Student Content Team members attended the 2025-2026 Georgetown Day School (GDS) Consent Summit with SSFS counselors Beatrice Adewole and Erin Rose. Following the summit, these students led presentations for each Upper School grade about the delicate topic of sexual assault and consent.

2026 Consent Summit Presentations

At the summit, students interacted with fellow high school students from all over the country in cohorts to exchange ideas on ways to strengthen their local school’s advocacy for assault survivors, attended a survivor panel discussion, and participated in workshops on multiple facets of this critical topic. Workshop titles included

  • “Be the Change; Active Bystander Skills for Everyone”
  • “Everything Makes Perfect Sense: Understanding the Psyche and Nervous System after Trauma”
  • “Centering Marginalized Survivors”
  • “Boys Leading Boys: Masculinity and Consent”   … and many more

They finished up the conference day motivated by the keynote speaker, Amanda Nguyen, Assault Survivor and NASA Astronaut (1st Vietnamese/Southeast Asian woman in space) who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her legislative work as author of the federal Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill  of Rights that was unanimously passed in U.S. Congress in 2016, and then passed over 200 related bills. She is also author of 2025 New York Times Bestseller book, Saving Five: A Memoir of Hope

Student advocacy work will continue during April in honor of SAAM (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) with an US public pledge for students to sign, buttons for “SAAM Day of Action Day” (4/7/26) & “Denim Day” (4/29/26), flyers given out with related resources and possibly a moderated movie night and possibly a presentation to MS 8th graders.

Thanks to the following Upper School students for their leadership in ensuring the safety and care of their peers:
