SSFS Celebrates Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month 2025

In addition to bulletin boards, slideshows, and decorations highlighting Latinx heritage, the Upper, Middle, and Lower School divisions have participated in various activities that highlight Hispanic/Latinx culture and heritage.

Upper School Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month Assembly

On October 9, the US Hispanic/Latinx Affinity Group came together to celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month in community. This year’s theme was “Cultural Identity Through Food.”

Students Antonio, Kaiden, Melanie, Robbie, Sophia, and TJ shared a presentation about food ingredients first cultivated in the Americas and how these ingredients continue to be staples in Latin American cuisines today. They also highlighted how European, African, Middle Eastern, and Asian influences have contributed to the incredible diversity of Latin dishes.

The students celebrated their heritage by sharing stories and memories of their families’ culinary traditions, along with some of our SSFS community’s favorite Hispanic and Latin foods. The event concluded with a special appreciation for our wonderful CulinAart staff, who delighted everyone with dishes featuring native ingredients such as corn, beans,chiles, and quinoa.

To top off the celebration, students offered samples of Mexican candies and Guaraná soda, a unique flavor from the Amazon region of Brazil. 

Middle School Heritage Month Read-Aloud

Middle School students were invited to attend the Hispanic Heritage Month Read-Aloud, celebrating culture, honoring traditions and inspiring community reading books together in Yarnall Library! 

4th Grade Learns About Cumbia, Colombia's National Dance

SSFS Staff Accountant Yisely Lebowitz visited Anali Reiter's Fourth Grade Spanish class to speak with the students about cultural traditions of Colombia, including Colombia's national dance, Cumbia. The students had a great time learning the steps and listening to traditional Colombian music! More photos are available in our online photo gallery.
