SSFS 2026 Spring Sports Highlights

SSFS 2026 Spring Sports Highlights

Congrats to our "small but mighty" SSFS spring teams! Many teams this year included students who were new to the sport, and it was wonderful to see the growth and development of each team throughout the season. See below for full updates from all our spring teams, and, as always, thanks to all the fans who came out to support our athletes!

Track & Field

US Track and Field 2025-2026

UPPER SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD
Head Coach Kathleen McCullough

While the 'Beests had a smaller roster than last year, they more than compensated with a dedicated corps of new and returning athletes. They showed up when it counted most at PVAC Championships with 12 of 16 athletes recording personal bests at that meet. The Beests saw strong performances across the sprints, hurdles, jumps and distances, with all athletes showing significant improvements over the course of the season. Pound for pound, this may have been one of the most productive teams the Beests have had! They will miss their Seniors, Teni Abiona, Nigel Hickson, Fifa Houndje, Justin Ibida, Elena Katzin, Gabby Osei, and Rohan Thomas. But with Isani Abdus-Samad, Riviera Alemu, Jinan Braswell, Xavier Jones, Clara Katzin, Nia Miller, Azai Samuel, and Anjo Yette still on the roster, the Beests have a solid base to build from. Congratulations to the boys for their 3rd place finish at PVAC Champs and the girls for placing 6th with teams that certainly outperformed expectations.

MS Coed Track and Field 2026

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD
Head Coach Kristin McCarthy

Middle School Track & Field was a small team this year, but they showed up big in spirit and performance. With equal numbers of new members and returning members, there were opportunities throughout the season for some of our more veteran teammates to mentor our newer athletes. Two new MS records were set this year, both by Victory Walker: 29 '7.75 " in the shot put, and 65”3’ in the discus. For the boys, the scorers in the PVAC Championship meet were Jonas Huber, Jackson Dilts, Isaac Snyder, and Naveed Young in the 4x400 relay. Top scorers for the girls were Cala Armwood, Emmeline Tejpar, Victory Walker, and Makayla Cooley. Congrats to our girls for placing second in the PVAC this season!

Big thanks to our Team Captains for their leadership this season--Emme, Cala, Landon, and Naveed--and congrats to the Team for a strong season. Keep running, keep throwing, and we hope to see you out there again next year!

BASEBALL

US Baseball Team 2026

UPPER SCHOOL VARSITY BASEBALL
Head Coach John Fitzgerald

The 2026 season marked a year of transition and growth for the Upper School Varsity Baseball program. After graduating several key contributors from the previous season’s championship team, the program entered the year with a younger roster that gained valuable experience competing at the varsity level.

Throughout the season, the team continued to develop and build chemistry while navigating the challenges that come with growth and change. The program was led by a strong group of returning players, including 2nd Team All-PVAC selections Charley Scace and Max Monschein, alongside seniors Ian Donahue and Steve Kim, sophomore Owen Combs, and freshman Kaiden Lugo.

While the season brought its share of learning opportunities, it also helped lay important groundwork for the future of the program. With many returning players expected back next season, along with several promising additions to the roster, there is excitement surrounding the continued development and direction of Upper School Varsity Baseball.

MS Boys Baseball Team 2026

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
Head Coach Corey Lyman

A steady and balanced squad, the MS Baseball team made a magical run to the PVAC Championship Game. With a veteran roster of 11 eighth graders, 8 seventh graders, and 4 sixth graders, the group played excellent team baseball centered around solid fundamentals of fielding, baserunning, and communicating. Each player brought a unique skillset to the team and worked hard, rallying around one another and supporting each other from start to finish. The team truly embodied the spirit of "Never give up!"

Our 8th graders will be missed next year, but we know that they will be strong leaders in high school. Our 6th and 7th graders will continue to grow and forge their own journeys next year, and it will be exciting to see how they build on this impressive season. Remember to stay active, to watch as much baseball as your parents will let you, and to throw the ball as much as you can. The work you put in now will make next season even better! Go 'Beests!

LACROSSE

US Women's Lacrosse

UPPER SCHOOL WOMEN'S VARSITY LACROSSE
Head Coach Robyn Linsenberg

Another wonderful season for our Beests! We are gaining traction in the lacrosse world, building our program day by day. This year we had 6 new players join the team, and we were able to develop their skills to become unstoppable forces. Two of those new players, 9th graders Margo Chmil and Clementine Parker, stepped into the role of goalie and truly shined! 10th grader Finley Siegrist, another new player, was a force to be reckoned with on the draw.

Returning player Alex Schulz, a 10th grader, tested out midfield and taking the draw this year, and she will most certainly be doing those positions next year. Scoring an unbelievable 25 goals this season was Eden Johnston-Shaw (11th grade), surpassing her high of 17 last year. Our seniors and captains Caitlyn Widener and Alex Johnson showed so much leadership and growth this year, leading our team to its first victory in two years! They helped the team build community and trust, and we are excited to see where the program heads next year.

MS Girls Lacrosse Club Team 2026

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL'S CLUB LACROSSE
Head Coach Heidi Duff

What a pleasure it was to coach the MS Lacrosse team this year. Before the season could start, the players worked hard to have enough people for a team. Once that was accomplished they continued to show up. With a team of mostly new players, they grew tremendously as the season progressed and played with a lot of heart. Their energy, enthusiasm and engagement made the season a joyful experience for all. During our three games, they held up the goals we set for them incredibly well: play until the end, communicate, and back each other up. What a great season - I'm looking forward to next year!

GOLF

UPPER SCHOOL VARSITY Golf
Head Coach Jonathan Bagg

This season for Varsity Golf was a meaningful step forward for our program. We celebrated two league match victories and proudly had two golfers earn 2nd Team All-PVAC Conference honors, a testament to their dedication and growth. Beyond the results, the team showed tremendous improvement throughout the year—developing their skills, gaining confidence on the course, and learning how to compete with consistency. Just as important, the group truly enjoyed the experience, building strong relationships and creating lasting memories under the guidance of Coach Jonathan. His positive energy and commitment helped make this a fun, rewarding, and developmental season for everyone involved.

SSFS INTRAMURAL SPORTS

Flag Football
Led by Declan Burros, Dan Conway, Candice Ashton
The inaugural Upper School Intramural Flag Football team began with a promising start, with a large number of players interested in playing the fast growing sport. After a brief introductory meeting, going over USA flag football rules, we began practicing. Practices revolved around building offensive and defensive skills, team play and continuing to develop an understanding of the rules of flag football. We also played a variety of fun games such as steal the bacon (which requires good flag pulling skills), as well as a punt/pass/kick competition or a group favorite, sharks and minnows. Despite not playing any formal games, plenty of fun was had. We look forward to building on this season's progress next year!

Farming for Fitness
Led by Francis Zell
Farming for Fitness students were taught the skills of gardening and sustainable food production through structured physical activity. Students worked on our campus farm several times each week. Using hand tools, they moved loads of compost, weeded beds, planted seeds, transplanted veggie and herb plants, wood chipped pathways, set up irrigation, and more. The farming for fitness program is made up of the oldest students that come to the farm and frequently they finish what lower and middle school classes could not complete during the day. They helped me clean up the farm on a regular basis, and were instrumental in designing and setting up the beds for this spring and summer. The Farming for Fitness program is essential to the success of the farm and their hard work is much appreciated.
