Every February, the Kindergarten class at SSFS runs an all-school post office called Wee Mail. This annual project, which is in its 29th year at SSFS, culminates the Kindergarten class's study of the U.S. postal system. They visit the National Postal Museum in DC, and learn about addresses and how mail moves. The project combines art (stamp design), math (selling the stamps and counting the money), language arts (writing letters), and social studies (geography, study of government organizations like the post office) into a fun, hands-on learning opportunity. Plus, it's a great way for the 5th graders to get to know the Kindergarten kids!
We invite all members of the SSFS community to purchase stamps in front of the LS weekday mornings from 7:45-8:10 AM and send in special notes to friends, children, and colleagues. Stamps are also available at the front desk in the MS and US. Please note that our post office can only send letters; please do not include candy or trinkets!
You can even download some Wee Mail templates, below! Just print the PDF on both sides, fold in half, and add your special Wee Mail stamp and address.
