Head of School For a Day Gives Student a Glimpse into School Head Life

Always a popular auction offering, the "Head of School for a Day" experience auctioned off at the annual Friends Celebration: Supporting Financial Aid event sparks lots of friendly competition. The parents of Landon R. '30 ultimately secured the winning bid, and on Fri., Dec. 6, Landon got to live out his dream of becoming Head of School. After his first duty as Head of School—warmly welcoming a full room of SSFS student applicants who were on campus to attend classes as part of their admissions shadow day—Landon accompanied Interim Head of School Sue Groesbeck in a full day of activities, interviews, meetings, and lunch.

Welcoming SSFS student applicants

After his day, Landon shared: "Today was a great experience for me. I have been wanting to become the head of school for a very long time. Sue and I enjoyed lunch together while picking up friends and driving them around in a golf cart. During the day, Sue and I visited a Torch student government meeting and also attended an Upper School Meeting for Worship. Visiting different divisions, I have noticed that all three divisions are amazing and different. I hope someone can enjoy this day like I did, and I hope I can have this opportunity again."

"Having Landon at my side as Head of School for the whole day gave me a fresh perspective on the role,” said Interim Head of School Sue Groesbeck. “Through his enthusiastic and fresh lens, I was re-awakened to the wonderful joys of my profession. Landon was an amazing partner.”
