Denim Day 2026

Denim Day 2026

By Beatrice Adewole, LS and US Counselor

“Denim Day” is a global initiative that marks the conclusion of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time dedicated to raising awareness and showing support for survivors of sexual assault and related forms of harm. April 29, 2026 marked the 25th Anniversary of this initiative (see the history of the day here). SSFS alum Lucien Schor ‘25 and his mother were both supporters of this day, donating Denim Day buttons and sharing awareness with our community; Upper School counselor Beatrice Adewole has continued the support for the initiative.

Community members were encouraged to wear denim on Wednesday, April 29, as a visible show of solidarity and support. In addition to wearing denim, Upper School students and staff recognize Denim Day in the following ways:

  • Denim Day buttons were distributed, along with a resource and information sheet.
  • A SAAM display has been featured in the Upper School Atrium throughout April, highlighting resources, laws, facts, and statistics.
  • A Public Pledge, also located in the Atrium, invites community members to read and sign in support of this important cause.

Or, as Springers call them, "Gnu Stories"

Since our mascot is the wildebeest—also called "gnu"—our community newsletter is similarly named and shares the stories of the inspiring people, purposeful programming, and energizing events that fill our lives throughout the year.
