The SSFS community came together on Mar. 12, 2023, for our 8th Empty Bowl Dinner after several year’s hiatus due to Covid. Attendees picked a handmade bowl from the stunning and colorful selection available, and enjoyed hot soup and bread in the company of friends. It was heartwarming to see the gathering of so many current and past families and faculty-staff who have been part of this special event. The March 12 dinner was the culmination of countless weekend and after-school empty bowl-making sessions in the Art Barn, during which the community collaborated to create over 700 beautiful, handmade bowls in service to this event, the proceeds of which go to support Feeding America. (Special thanks, too, to the professional artistic donations by Jordan, Sabine, and Kellye, who donated bowls as part of the Silent Auction.)
Of course: EXTRA SPECIAL thanks go to Lower School art teacher Kate Santorineos, who has hosted bowl-making sessions and orchestrated this community event since its first inception in 2005, and who will be retiring at the end of this year. A final tally of the dinner’s proceeds is in the works and will be available soon. Meanwhile, huge thanks to all for helping to make the bowls, prepare the soups, plan and implement the dinner, and donate time, talent, and treasure in order to make this such a successful night!
