Sandy Spring Friends School

Parents Assocation FAQs

What does the Parents Association (PA) do?

In direct alignment with Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship (SPICES), the Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) Parent’s Association is a resource for community building.  Events and activities are designed to address opportunities, share information, and create a contagious enthusiasm for community.

How can I become involved with the Parents Association?

All SSFS parents are already a part of the PA.  You don’t have to formally join or make a commitment to become involved.  We typically hold monthly meetings and stagger them between evening and morning times to accommodate varying schedules, and we also offer conferencing options.  There are many events and activities to participate in, with varying volunteer opportunities or even just opportunities to come and have fun.  Please feel free to email us at with any questions or interests!

What are the big PA events that you hold throughout the year?

We have a lot of fantastic community events that take place throughout the year.  Please see our calendar of events on our website or ask us for a printed copy.  We have events that focus on community building, community service, supporting our students, giving thanks to our wonderful SSFS staff, and raising funds for financial aid.

Where can I find out more about events and volunteer opportunities?

Please check out the Parents Association on the SSFS website.  We also have information about upcoming events in the weekly newsletter and shared by your grade representative.  You can also email us directly at with any questions or inquiries.

Do I have to have a lot of free time or commit to a lot of work to be involved with the PA?

No!  We always welcome any help, suggestions, questions, etc., no matter how big or small.  We understand that everyone has busy schedules, and it’s often hard to find the time to take on more tasks.  Come to a meeting and ask questions, send us an email with your ideas, volunteer an hour at an event, or just come out and enjoy one of our events and help build our community.  We are stronger with every bit of support and involvement we have!

I’m interested in clerking (running) an event or becoming a grade rep. What should I do?

Thank you so much for your interest!  For interest in clerking/running an event, please email us at, as we have a few opportunities still available this year, and we are always looking ahead.

For interest in becoming a grade or division rep, or a PA Clerk, we have a formal nominating process that begins in December/January and ends in the Spring with the announcement of the new Reps.  You’ll find more information about the process in the weekly newsletter and can always nominate yourself or others.
