Dear Middle and Upper School Parents,
I wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity being offered in the Upper School and Middle School on Thursday, December 5, 2019. As part of our health and wellness education, the SSFS Counseling Department has invited prevention specialists from FCD Prevention Works to visit the Middle and Upper School. A part of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, FCD is a non-profit organization that provides substance use prevention services to schools worldwide.
During their visit on December 5, FCD prevention specialists will hold an assembly for all Upper School students on vaping. They will discuss how vaping in its many forms is a drug use practice that poses both multiple health risks and the risk of addiction to young people. In the Middle School, the prevention specialists will meet with each grade to discuss vaping as a risky drug delivery behavior, all from a health perspective and with age-appropriate discussion and activities. In each forum, FCD prevention specialists will present the most up-to-date information available on the physiological and psychological effects of vaping, and provide an opportunity for students to ask questions.
Additionally, FCD prevention specialists will hold a drop-in session for US and MS parents to come in and ask questions from 3:10-4:10 pm in the MS Conference Room.
