Dear Friends,
Happy Summer! Hope you are enjoying time with family and friends, as well as the nice warm weather. As a follow-up to my June 10th email, below please see our most recent Head of School Search Committee update.
Following Tom Gibian's announcement of his upcoming retirement after the 2019-20 school year and the Head of School job posting via Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates (SPA), we have received strong interest in the position, resulting in over 50 applications for the job! After an initial screening, this very well-qualified group of candidates was narrowed to about 30 names that are currently being reviewed by the search committee for our key leadership position.
This candidate pool is a strong one—consisting of executives, senior administrators, and experienced educators. The list includes current and former Heads, Associate and Assistant Heads, and Division Heads from leading schools in Quaker education or progressive education, more generally. Geographically, the candidate pool stretches from Georgia to New England, and as far away as California and Oregon, with our heaviest concentration coming from the mid-Atlantic states. In terms of diversity, we are also doing well. For example, about 40 percent of our candidates are women, and about 40 percent are people of color. As always, you can find more information about the search process on our web page.
In terms of next steps, we will be moving soon on to the interview phase of our search. This includes initial and second-round interviews that will be held off-site. It's an exciting time for the search committee to finally have an opportunity to meet some very talented folks face-to-face after reading a lot of files! As we complete this process over the summer, please stay tuned for an announcement about our finalists—who will be coming onto campus in the fall. And thanks again to all of you for your support throughout our search process.
Best,
Hamid Faruqee
