After a year and a half of being unable to host SSFS alumni in-person events due to covid, we are delighted to announce that SSFS alumni, students, faculty, family, and friends gathered on campus on Friday, November 26, 2021, for the annual Alumni Soccer Games & SSFS Turkey Trot 5K. This day-after-Thanksgiving alumni event has always been a fan favorite, and this year, with the help of all attendees following our COVID guidelines, we had nearly 150 runners, walkers, soccer players, and spectators back to campus to join in the festivities! It was a particularly joyful year, as absence really did make the heart grow fonder!
The day began at 11:30 with the fifth annual Turkey Trot 5K, in which 20-30 runners and walkers contested the SSFS cross-country course. Among them were alumni and current students, including former and current cross-country team members, faculty, staff, and coaches, as well as their parents, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. In the end, David Dean '09 and Scout Crooke '20 battled it out for the top male and female placings. Many thanks to SSFS Athletic Director Steve Powers for setting up the course and Cross Country Coach, Leah Niepold, for officiating the race.
Soccer kicked off at 1:00 with SSFS alumni and current students spanning five decades! The games were punctuated by cheering and laughter while spectators—including fellow alumni, parents, family, and friends—caught up and enjoyed hot drinks, snacks, and some delicious SSFS themed cookies. Covid prevented us from enjoying Bim Schauffler' delicious grill steak, but we are looking forward to next year when we can that grill back out!
A special thank you goes out to Steve Powers, Jeff Rohrman, Tobi Goss, Leah Niepold, Carylton Ganong, and all our student volunteers for all of their help and continued support in putting on this special event. We look forward to seeing you next year on Friday, November 25, 2022.
