Sandy Spring Friends School

Fall  2020

Wednesday, September 2 marked SSFS's 59th First Day of School—a first day like no other! Sandy Spring Friends School kicked off the 2020-21 school year in virtual mode, with the first few days of school dedicated to grade and class orientation sessions, building community, and getting comfortable with schedules. And, of course, we welcomed new faculty, new students, and new Head of School Rodney Glasgow to a brand-new year!

As we settle into the routine of a new school year, it is amazing how some things—even in our virtual world—remain the same. Lower, Middle, and Upper School Back to School Nights, College Counseling Information Nights, the All-School Opening Assembly, Laps for Lexi, Community Day: although the experience is different, these events continue to be markers of fall at SSFS.

In that spirit of maintaining community and connection in a world that looks very different, we are delighted to share this Fall Quarterly eNewsletter. Please see the articles below to learn more about SSFS's plans for the virtual first semester, mark events coming up in the next several weeks, learn about the new faculty and staff who joined SSFS over the summer, and celebrate the accomplishments of our alumni. Be sure to bookmark the "Gnu Stories: Highlights from the SSFS Community" podcast, too, for regular podcasts offering updates on happenings at Sandy Spring Friends School.

We hope that you are safe and well, and we look forward to seeing many of you at one or more of our virtual events this fall!
