Welcome Alumni

Once a 'Beest, Always a 'Beest! At Sandy Spring Friends School, belonging is more than a word—it's a transformative experience that empowers our graduates to be positive changemakers in the world. When our students graduate and move on from our serene 140+ acre campus, they’re fully equipped to live out our motto—to Let Their Lives Speak. Even while they disperse around the globe to every place, vocation, and passion imaginable, our alumni remain connected as a part of our close-knit Springer community of students, families, faculty and staff, trustees, families of alums, and friends.

SSFS Alumni Family Fest Weekend
Saturday, May 30 – Sunday, May 31, 2026

Join us for Sandy Spring Friends School’s Annual Alumni Family Fest, a joyful weekend of connection, remembrance, and celebration. The name Alumni Family Fest reflects the spirit of the event: all alumni and former students are warmly encouraged to bring their families—parents, partners, children, grandparents, and loved ones—to share in the experience together.

This beloved tradition brings generations of Springers back to campus to reconnect with classmates, spend time with former and current faculty and staff, and celebrate the community that continues to shape our lives. Whether you graduated decades ago or just recently left campus, Alumni Family Fest is a wonderful opportunity to come home to SSFS.

Our Community Speaks: The Alumni Experience

"There’s something about this place that makes alums stand out—they leave ready to Let Their Lives Speak."

Erin Scott P ’17, ’22, Kindergarten Teacher

Kwame Darko '98

“This is the place that helped me grow. I grew up in Ghana, and when I came to SSFS as a boarder, the faculty and staff here became my parental unit. This place is my family. When I’m here, I’m home. I want to help other students feel the way I felt about this place.”

Kwame Darko ’98, P ’31

Michel Ruiz-Fuentes '20

“I enjoyed my experience so much that I want to continue working in education and think about how to increase access to education like I received at SSFS—it changed the trajectory of my life. I was very timid, and at SSFS I found my voice.”

Michel Ruiz-Fuentes '20

Mecca McCain '20

“At Sandy Spring, they really emphasize community—and community means everyone. As a senior, I had a Kindergarten buddy, and the cross-divisional and inter-grade relationships were really special. The connections with adults at SSFS are also something I’ll always value. Relationships like the ones I had at SSFS are something I seek as I go forward. SSFS helped me discover who I am—all the layers of me—down to my core.”

Tobi Goss '10

“I just love these kids. I know those relationships will continue after they graduate, and I look forward to the times when the relationships will resurface—when they come back and visit. My heart feels very full.”

Tobi Goss '10, Former Head Varsity Women’s Soccer Coach

William Henderson '22

“I’m proud that I have solidified myself as a campus leader. I’m definitely fully invested in my various roles; I bring passion, dedication, and—like SSFS, which finds unique ways to showcase the interconnectedness of the SPICES, experiential learning, and traditional learning—a little quirkiness to everything I do.”

William Henderson '22

Linda Garrettson '85, P'16

“As a student, SSFS made me feel like a full, whole person. I came back because I felt so seen, known, and valued by my teachers. ”

Linda Garrettson '85, P '16, Former Lower School Faculty

Christine Olsen '84

“I was recently visiting DC and decided on a whim to visit SSFS. I knew many changes had taken place over the years, but in keeping up with updates from the school, I also knew the core values were exactly the same. When I entered campus, I was flooded with memories and emotions.  The Sandy Spring I knew was still there.”

Christine Olsen '84

Clara Shapiro '23

“Even though I’ve graduated,  I know I’m still part of the community, and they are always rooting for me.”
