Rolling Admissions
Applications submitted after the application deadline are considered on a space-available basis.
STEP 1: Submit Inquiry
Please begin the application process by completing an online inquiry form to set up an account in the Admission Portal. Upon submission, you will receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to confirm your SSFS Admission Portal account and begin your application.
STEP 2: Start Your Application
In order to start your online application process, you must first submit an inquiry (see above) to obtain your login and password to the Admission Portal. Once you have received an email with your login/password and application instructions, you may log in and begin the application process through the Admission Portal. Logging into the Application Portal will provide you with the following:
- A checklist of application requirements
- Electronic forms needed for the application process, including:
- Math teacher recommendation form
- English teacher recommendation form
- Current school records request form
- If applicable: Neuro-Psych (Behavioral Reports), 504 Plan, IEP, standardized testing reports
- Event calendar to schedule interviews and virtual visits (see Step 3)
- The ability to track the status of your application
STEP 3: Schedule a School Visit and Interview
While Sandy Spring Friends School is currently in virtual learning mode due to the Coronavirus, applicants will be invited to attend a one-hour virtual visit. This student virtual visit includes
- attending an academic class,
- speaking with student ambassadors, and
- interviewing with a member of the Upper School administration.
The required parent interview may be scheduled during the same time period, or a different time. Both the virtual visit and the required parent interview can be scheduled using the event calendar on the Admission Portal. If you have questions, please contact admissions@ssfs.org
STEP 4: Testing
Normally, applicants for grades 6-12 are required to take the SSAT. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, SSAT testing will not be required for the 2021-2022 application.
STEP 5: Track Application Status
Please log in to your SSFS Admission Portal regularly to ensure that your forms have been received and your application file is complete. Families whose applications are completed by the priority deadline (January 15) will be notified about acceptance on March 1, 2021. Applications are accepted year-round on a space-available basis.
Additional Step: Financial Aid
Our financial aid program* and our various payment options strive to help make attending Sandy Spring Friends School a reality for as many families as possible. We offer need-based financial aid grants to offset the cost of tuition. Families seeking financial assistance are encouraged to apply for financial assistance as soon as they have completed the admission application.

Our application for the 2021-2022 school year is available online. Please note that we have modified our admission process for this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will conduct most on-campus requirements virtually. Please feel free to contact the Admissions Office if you have any questions.
