Preschool Daily Schedule
A typical day in preschool includes opportunities for structured and unstructured play, child-directed learning, and outdoor exploration. Our values-based curriculum helps children develop strong social-emotional skills as they learn and play together.
Example Daily Schedules
Times on the schedule are estimated times. Activities—and the timing of those activities—may be different depending on the day.
Morning Meeting • 8:15 AM–8:35 AM
Teachers bring the classroom together for morning greetings and to discuss the schedule for the day.
Purposeful Play • 8:35 AM–10:00 AM
Preschool students visit the various stations in the classroom that allow for individual and collaborative creativity and exploration through fun, play-based activities.
Spanish or Music • 10:00 AM–11:00 AM
Each week, students participate in Spanish class, where they learn the Spanish language through play, music, and art. On the other days of the week, students participate in Music class, where they learn songs and explore different instruments.
Literacy, Library, or SHINE Class • 11:00 AM–11:30 AM
Preschoolers have time for stories and visits to the library, or stay in the classroom for our social-emotional curricular program, Shine, taught by our Lower School Counselor.
Lunch Time and Outdoor Play • 11:30 AM–1:00 PM
Preschoolers have time for unstructured play on our natural playground. Then, they get ready for lunch (wash hands, use the restroom), and eat meals prepared by CulinArt, SSFS' food service provider.
Rest Time • 1:00 PM–2:00 PM
Outdoor Play • 2:00 PM–2:30 PM
After rest time, students head back outside for more play.
Lower School Community Time or Meeting for Worship • 2:30 PM–3:00 PM
This time may be used for Lower School gatherings and assemblies with other grades, a brief Meeting for Worship, or a classroom activity.
Closing and Reflection • 2:30-3:00 PM
Preschoolers get ready for dismissal by packing up all their stuff from the day. Then, teachers bring the classroom together for one last check-in and to reflect on what the students have learned that day.
Dismissal At 3:20 PM*
*Due to early dismissals on Wednesdays (for faculty/staff professional development; extended care is available on campus), students do not take a rest time. Instead, they participate in Play Literacy and Numeracy, pack up, and closing circle and are dismissed by 1:10 PM.
