Lower School Extended Care & After School Clubs
Here at Sandy Spring Friends School, we’re committed to fostering a sense of belonging for all students, and that isn’t limited to the confines of the school day. If your family needs extended care, we’ve got you covered. Before care is provided by SSFS Lower School faculty and staff at no cost. Additionally, SSFS offers an optional, on-campus aftercare service.
Before Care
Lower School Before Care, provided by our very own faculty and staff, is available at no cost for any student from 7:30 to 8:00 AM. Parents/Guardians drop off students in front of Walbrooke/Breiling, the main Lower School building, where they are greeted by Lower School faculty. Weather permitting, the students are supervised on the Lower School playground. In the event of inclement weather, students gather in a Lower School classroom where they can visit with friends, read, draw, or play games. Registration is not required for Before Care services.
Aftercare: Afternoons With Friends (AWF)
SSFS provides a safe, supportive, and fun environment for SSFS preschool through 5th-grade students, from the moment the school day ends until 6:30 PM.
To better support our community, SSFS offers an in-house aftercare program for students in grades PreK–5. Afternoons with Friends (AWF) is a warm, engaging, and values-centered extension of the school day for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Aftercare fees vary on number of days per week students attend.
Rooted in Quaker values of community, simplicity, and respect, our Aftercare program provides a peaceful and supportive space where students can unwind, connect with peers, and participate in a variety of enriching, age-appropriate activities. Whether enjoying outdoor play, creative projects, games, or quiet time to read or complete homework, children are cared for in a safe, supervised environment that honors the spirit of SSFS.
Lower school students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of after school clubs designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
After School Clubs
After-school clubs offer a variety of interesting opportunities for students to explore and expand extracurricular interests. Our clubs are offered in three sessions: fall, winter and spring. A snack is provided each week to all students. At the end of the club session students not regularly enrolled in our aftercare program must be promptly picked-up.
Students regularly enrolled in aftercare will be escorted to the space at the end of the club session. The maximum enrollment of each club is determined by the teacher based on the subject, time, and resources available.
