T.H.R.E.A.D. - Teachers Help Reduce and Eliminate Alcohol and other Drugs
THREAD was formed as a non-punitive resource for students. We are an informational resource and a sounding board for students worried about their own or their friend's use of alcohol and/or other drugs. It is a way for students using alcohol and other drugs to get help. Students can refer themselves to THREAD. Friends who are concerned about a peer's use of alcohol and/or other drugs can also refer their friend confidentially.
One way to use THREAD is to submit a concern form to a THREAD member or the committee. Only committee members will ever see these forms. If you submit a concern form and give your name, your identity will remain confidential. You do not have to give your name to submit a concern. No one from administration or the faculty outside of the THREAD committee have access to the forms.
You can find blank forms
- on the THREAD bulletin board in Moore Hall (2nd Floor, across from Ken Smith's office),
- posted at the THREAD box next to the community service office,
- posted at the THREAD box on the ledge next to the kitchen in the Performing Arts Center, and
- online at http://www.ssfs.org/upper/THREAD
Once you have completed a concern form you may
- give the concern form to any member of the THREAD committee (see below),
- place the form in the box next to the community service office,
- place the form in the box in the PAC, or
- send it to THREAD by e-mail to THREAD@ssfs.org.
Another way to use THREAD is to speak with members of the committee individually. The members of THREAD were selected by the Upper School student community four years ago. They attended Student Assistance Training offered through Montgomery County. Though committee members are not trained counselors, they are ready to lend a friendly ear to students who have questions or concerns about the use of alcohol and/or other drugs These conversations will remain confidential unless the student posses an imminent threat to him/herself or to others in the community. THREAD can help guide a student to resources or services that can help with substance abuse or other issues.
You can reach members by e-mail or speak to them in person during their office hours. The members are
