Student Support Services
Counselor
Informal counseling for a student or his or her family is available through the counselor. A student or group of students can choose to meet with the counselor or can be referred by a teacher, parents or the Upper School Head. Parents are asked to contact the counselor as soon as concerns arise. A family will be contacted if their child needs to be referred to an outside professional or if there are concerns for the students personal safety.
Learning Specialist
A learning specialist is available to assist both teachers and students in developing strategies to meet the individual learning styles of students. Parents are asked to contact the classroom teacher as soon as concerns arise. The learning specialist is available to do a preliminary screening and follow-up conference with parents and faculty.
To obtain additional information about a student experiencing learning difficulty, the student may be referred to for testing after consultation with the parents. When intensive individual instruction is recommended, the learning specialist will work with the parent, tutor, and classroom teacher to coordinate the remediation . The learning specialist will also arrange a time and place for the tutoring, if it is to take place during the school day.
Student Resource Team
The Student Resource Team (SRT) meets weekly and works in an interdisciplinary manner to coordinate resources and services for specific students. Parents and faculty may consult the SRT. Members of the SRT include the Upper School Head, Day and Dorm Counselor, Learning Specialist, Head of the 9th grade team, Dean of Upper School, College Guidance Counselor, Director of Dorm, Director of International Student Program, and School Nurse.
