Summer Friends Day Camps were founded 17 years ago at Sandy Spring Friends School with the goal of providing a unique summer experience grounded in Quaker values. We opened our doors to 100 campers that first summer, and combined our 140-acre campus with a program designed to engage exploration, learning, friendship, and summertime fun. These core values remain, even as the size of our summer program has significantly grown over the years.
We measure our long-term success not by the consistently strong number of summer campers, the robust breadth of our programs, or the high quality of our facilities, but by the smiles, camaraderie, and growth of self-confidence we see in our campers. Many campers return year after year to the campus to have another Sandy Spring summer. This dedication to Summer Friends Day Camps is also found in the camp staff. Several of our former campers have become staff members themselves, after completion of our CIT camp. Additionally, several of our senior counselors are faculty at Sandy Spring Friends School.
In Summer 2009, we will offer 63 individual day camp sessions for children from 4 to 17 years of age. Ranging from our general Friends camps to our famous Cooking camp, featured on Fox 5 news last summer, there are programs to suit a wide range of interests and ages. To support families, we offer morning care, after care, and bus transportation.
Please take a moment to look through our camp offerings. Please do not hesitate to call the camp office for answers to any questions you may have, or even to set up a tour. We are excited for you to experience our beautiful wooded campus with top-notch facilities, streams, ponds, and challenge courses first-hand.
See you in June!
