Academic Program > Electives
Electives are offered three times a cycle (Days 1, 3, and 5) from 2:45-3:25 p.m. Elective offerings will change with the sports seasons.
The current fall 2007 elective choices are the following:
Journalism:
Serious writers only. The journalism elective will produce the Middle School page to be included in the school paper, the Gnus. Students who choose this elective must expect to turn in several articles for inclusion on the Middle School page. This will be pure journalism; no cartoons, movie reviews, etc. The object is to let the rest of SSFS know about the Middle School and it's students.
Indoor Games:
This elective is for beginners and experienced players to have fun playing chess and various card games. Student signing up for the elective should expect to spend the time playing chess, learning new openings and strategies, and learning card games.
Tutorial:
This elective is for those students who feel that they need some extra time during the day to get some school work done. This will be a quiet study period.
Outdoor Games:
Students who choose the Outdoor Games elective will spend their afternoons playing classic team games lincluding Kickball, Capture the Flag, Kick the Can, Ultimate Frisbee, and the famous Morley games.
Art:
Students will have the opportunity to create a multitude of drawings that will display characters and scenes of their own making. Basic drawing skills and some tricks of the trade will be included. The students will only need to bring their imagination.
Animation and Video:
In this elective students will learn basic animation techniques using the popular Flash animation program. Participants will also have the opportunity to film and edit videos using Apple’s i-Movie software. Students will gain skills in trimming, titling, captioning, adding effects and transitions, and layering music, narration, and sound effects. Come unleash your creativity digitally!
