Student Support Services

Student Resource Team

The Student Resource Team (SRT) meets weekly and works to coordinate resources and services to support individual student needs (academic, behavioral and/or social). Parents and faculty may consult the SRT. Members of the SRT include the Lower School Head, Counselor, Director of Student Support Services, and School Nurse. Other members of the faculty and staff may participate in SRT discussions, as needed, to best identify the needs of individual students.

To obtain additional information about a student experiencing learning difficulty, the student may be referred to an outside professional for testing after consultation with the parents. When intensive individual instruction is recommended, the Student Resource Team will work with the parent(s), tester if required, and classroom teacher to identify and prioritize the needed services and to suggest possible tutors. To arrange a time and place for the tutoring, if it is to take place during the school day, parents should contact the Counselor.

Counselor

Informal counseling for a student or his or her family is available through the Counselor. A student or group of students can choose to meet with the Counselor or can be referred by a teacher, parents, or the Lower School Head. Parents are asked to contact the Counselor as soon as concerns arise. A family will be contacted if their child needs to be referred to an outside professional. The Counselor visits classes to facilitate discussions on friendship building, transitions, and other developmental issues.

Director of Student Support Services

The Director of Student Support Services serves as department head for the counseling department and supervisor for the nurses and learning specialists. The Director of Student Support Services facilitates communication among the support services in each division, is a liaison between the school and community resources, and provides additional support to students, parents and faculty.

School Nurse

There are two nurses who serve the whole School. Within the Lower School a sick child area and first aid station is located in the main office of Walbrooke/Breiling. Students who need basic first aid, require medication, or are sick are tended to in the Lower School main office by either a nurse or the Administrative Assistant to the Lower School Head who is trained in first aid/CPR and certified as a Medication Assistant. The Nurses are available via telephone or walkie-talkie at all times for emergencies.
