November Book Report

This month we are reading mysteries. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be on TV? Well here is your chance. You will climb inside a giant TV where you will perform a news broadcast about the mystery that you read. This presentation will be filmed and you will have a chance to watch yourself on TV.

  1. Choose a mystery to read. As you read, identify the crime scene or mystery, who discovered the crime scene or mystery, were there any witnesses or suspects, was any evidence found, were there any clues, were there any motives, was there a chase scene, who committed the crime, who solved the crime or mystery, did justice prevail, …
  2. Watch news broadcasts and commercials for ideas about how you can make your presentation great. Notice the reporter’s eye contact, voice inflection, do they look and sound like they are reading?
  3. Pretend that you are a TV reporter. Write an article about the details of the mystery, crime, or events that occurred in your book.
  4. Your article must have an introductory paragraph, two supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. (You must include all of the elements listed in 1. that appear in your book.)
  5. Use a web, notes or outline to help you organize your thoughts and the events that occurred in the mystery.
  6. Include a commercial break in you broadcast. You may remake a commercial that you have seen on TV or you may write your own commercial. A prop of your product should be used.
  7. You will perform your news broadcast and commercial the week we return from Thanksgiving break.
