Diversity at SSFS
Mission Statement

The mission of the Diversity Committee is to contribute to the excellence of Sandy Spring Friends School by assuring that the School provide an equal sanctuary for all students, especially those who otherwise may be less fully valued.

Who We Are: SSFS Demographics at a Glance - 2007-2008

Q: What is the racial and ethnic diversity of the student body?
A: 63% European American, 13% African American, 10% Multiracial, 6% Asian American, 6% Foreign Nationals and 2% Latino.

Q: How many students are in your International Student program and what foreign countries are represented?
A: There are 35 students in our International Student Program representing China, Ethiopia, Korea, Russia, Rwanda, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Q: How many students are Quaker?
A: 83 students or 15% of the student body. There are over 20 different religions and denominations represented in the student body.

Q: What is the diversity of our Faculty & Staff?
A: For academic year 2007-2008, there are 155 faculty and staff. Of this group, 68% (105) of our faculty & staff are female and 32% (50) are male. 14% of our faculty & staff self-identify as People of Color according to the annual AIMS Diversity Representation. The school is wholly committed to increasing the ethnic diversity of our faculty to better match that of our student body.
