Annual Fund
What is it?
The Annual Fund solicits voluntary contributions to Sandy Spring Friends School from parents, alumni, faculty/staff, and friends of the School. It provides for approximately 5% of the school's annual operating budget and is essential for the school's overall operation. Annual Fund moneys are used for such purposes as enhancing faculty salaries, purchasing new books and periodicals for the Library, acquiring science and computer resources, augmenting the Arts program, supporting the Athletics program, improving facilities, and providing student financial aid.
Why do we need it?
Every year, educating each student costs more than the tuition covers and this 12% differential is subsidized by Annual Fund dollars. We strive to maintain competitive rates, yet desire to pay our faculty and staff competitive salaries, keep the student/teacher ratio small, and provide the support services necessary to ensure that each student has a rigorous, challenging, and broad academic program. To make up the difference, the School must raise additional funds through the Annual Fund, facility rentals, ancillary programs, and income from our small endowment. The generosity of all our Annual Fund contributors helps provide this crucial income.
How can you help?
Make Sandy Spring Friends School your philanthropic priority. We emphasize the importance of each gift at whatever level each family's means may allow. We accept gifts in cash, by credit card, and through stocks and bonds (excellent tax advantages). All gifts are tax deductible.
If you would like to make a pledge, or have any questions regarding this program, please contact Martha Cunningham, Director of the Annual Fund and Events, at 301.774.7455 ext 202 or at martha.cunningham@ssfs.org.
