How to Apply

We are excited that you are considering a Sandy Spring Friends School education for your child. Although the application deadline has passed, we continue to accept applications and will process them as space permits at each grade level.

We particularly encourage families interested in the 9th grade to submit an application as soon as possible, as our 9th grade is an expansion year and may still have spaces available. Please contact Sara Brigham with questions about space availability in the 10th and 11th grades.

To submit an application, please follow the instructions below. To download the necessary forms, click on the links within the text. All application information should be submitted to our Admissions Office by mail.

For ESL and international students, please visit the International Student Program (ISP) & ESL Program page for application requirements.

If you would prefer to receive the application information by mail, please click on Request an Application Packet and complete the required fields.

Application Form
To begin the application process, please complete the SSFS Application form and submit it to the Admissions office as soon as possible. You do not need to submit the $75 application fee at this time.

The remaining requirements of the process must be completed as soon as possible:

School Records Request Form
Please complete Section I of the School Records Request Form and give it directly to the registrar at the applicant's current school. This form authorizes the release of all school records, progress reports, test scores, IEPs and health records.

Confidential Teacher Evaluation Forms
Please write the applicant's name and grade applying to on the three Confidential Teacher Evaluation Forms. Give these forms to the applicant's current English and Mathematics teachers, as well as a third academic teacher of your choice. Each teacher should mail the completed recommendation form directly to our Admissions Office.

Student Essay
Submitting a student essay is a required part of the application process. Please have the applicant complete an essay using the Student Essay Form and return it to the Admissions Office.

Testing
Applicants entering 9th through 12th grades are required to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). To register the applicant for this test, visit the SSAT Web site and register on-line at www.ssat.org or call SSAT at (609) 683-4440 to request a Student Registration Guide. The SSAT school code number for Sandy Spring Friends School is 7090. The SSAT requirement may be waived if the applicant has taken the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or the WISC within the previous year. Please contact Sara Brigham if you are unsure about this requirement. If space limitations do not permit us to fully consider your child for fall 2008, the results from the testing may be used for reapplication the following year.

Day Visit and Interview
The Admissions Office will call you to schedule an appointment for the parent and student interviews and the student visit only if space is available at that grade level. We will ask for payment of the $75 application fee at that time.
