Transportation & Extended Care

Transportation

Sandy Spring Friends School is proud to serve students who hail from all over the DMV area, as well as around the world (thanks to our boarding program). For the convenience of our families, SSFS offers optional bus transportation between our campus and various group stops throughout Montgomery, Howard, and Prince George’s counties, as well as Washington, DC. Please note that the routes are determined by student need each year and are subject to change. For the safety of our youngest learners, bus transportation is available for students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade.

Buses are scheduled so that they can arrive on campus at or before 7:45 AM (exact arrival time depends on the route), and morning pick-ups begin between 6:50 AM-7:00 AM.

In addition, the School offers the 5:45 Shuttle, a free, daily bus service to two metro stations for Middle and Upper School students participating in athletics and other after-school activities. This bus departs from the Middle School Circle (on campus) at 5:45 PM to take students to the Glenmont and Shady Grove metro stations.

Extended Care

At Sandy Spring Friends School, we’re committed to fostering a sense of belonging for all students, and that doesn’t end with the conclusion of the school day. If your family needs extended care, we’ve got you covered.
Lower School Aftercare - Kids After Hours

Lower School Extended Care

Lower School Before Care, provided by our very own faculty and staff, is available at no cost for any student from 7:30 to 8:00 AM.

Lower School Aftercare: SSFS offers an optional, on-campus aftercare service for our preschool through 5th-grade students until 6:30 PM, run by a partner that understands our culture and gets to know each student as an individual: Kids After Hours (KAH). Lower School Aftercare fees depend on the number of days your student is registered. Visit KAH’s online fee calculator to determine the rate for your family’s desired number of days per week; a drop-in, pay-as-you-go arrangement is also an option!

Middle School After Care

If your Middle School student needs aftercare, we’ve got you covered, with an optional, on-campus service run by SSFS staff who seamlessly extend the School’s culture and provide a reliable, convenient space for students to complete homework, unwind outdoors, and enjoy each other’s company.

For Middle School students who are not able to depart school at dismissal time, Middle School Aftercare provides a safe, supportive, and fun environment from the end of the school day until 6:30 PM. Learn more, including a sample Aftercare schedule. Middle School Aftercare fees depend on use and may be prorated for sport seasons and individual days of the week.
