The Sandy Spring Friends School Campus
Our large, 140-acre, peaceful school campus includes academic and administrative buildings, the historic Meeting House, student housing, faculty residences, a state-of-the-art performing arts center, an athletics center (including a fitness center and climbing wall), sports fields, a swimming pond, and an aerial park. Our boarding students come from all over the United States, as well as a diverse array of countries from around the world such as China, Italy, Korea, Republic of Congo, Thailand, Vietnam, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Belgium, El Salvador, Serbia, Iran, Jamaica, and India. For more information download our brochure.
We offer each student a college preparatory curriculum and an opportunity to develop and grow into a responsible and caring citizen of the world. Our curriculum enables students to become confident young adults and prepares them for the rigors of higher education.
Our ESL program helps international students improve their English language skills and learn about life in America while preparing students to excel in all of their classes. The ESL program includes instruction in English conversation, vocabulary, grammar, composition, and literature.
More detail about our coursework, including our ESL program, can be found in our Curriculum Guide.
Sandy Spring Friends School offers 5-day boarding and 7-day boarding programs for U.S. students and international students. Based on availability, the individual’s developmental needs and preferred boarding type, students are placed in either our dormitory or in our home-stay program. Both options provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Please review our Housing Guide for more information about our housing options.
We are a community of scholars, athletes, performers, artists, thinkers, and leaders!
In addition to our program’s focus on strong academics, we place a high value on the student experience, all of which adds to our safe, diverse and caring community – a community that endures beyond graduation.
Our proximity to Washington, D.C. lends itself for plenty of fun on the weekends for our seven-day boarders. Weekend activities focus on community and global service, cultural exploration and celebration, and building healthy social relationships. Trips to the nation’s capital and surrounding area include visits to museums, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, sports games, and cultural events like the Renaissance Festival and Taste of D.C., just to name a few.
As a boarding student, our son has grown within a safe and supportive environment. His self-confidence unfolds more each day.
