Upper School English Teacher
The Upper School seeks a dynamic, experienced teacher for a full-time, continuing position in our English Department. The position is likely to include teaching a range of courses for students in grades 9-12 and may include serving as a member of the 9th Grade Team, including participation in advisor functions, co-curricular and recreational programs, and outdoor trips involving camping and hiking. Position may include coaching opportunities and/or other extra-curricular activities, depending on the candidate's interests and the needs of the School. This position could also include being a member of the dormitory staff who live on campus.
Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in English or closely related field; a master's degree is desirable. Ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to assist students in development of strong collegiate writing skills and an enduring appreciation for literature. Three years or more of high school teaching experience is preferred. SSFS seeks candidates who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view. The ideal candidate will have a desire to work with students making the transition from adolescence to adulthood in a supportive, challenging environment, and the candidate should possess strong interpersonal and written communications skills. Candidates must possess basic computer literacy and be able to utilize these skills as part of the curriculum.
